Hard drive '' smoked out''?? - fans turned on with psu paperclip trick

I experimented with dual power supply, and while my main computer was gone, I have my old 300W PSU (months)

... in conjunction with the green wire to ground wire 20-pin with pliers. My old PSU instead .. (Nothing else is connected) ... I connected one of the four-pin connector on my old 80 GB hard drive

and my power supply, then goes ... and then the smoke from the hard disk. I have the hard drive, and I saw some advice burned ciurcuit]
But the OL power works very well if I connect to some fans and a cold cathode ..

? Why?

    You tried attatched sophisticated touch with a paper clip?

    Simply, I suppose, to answer your question: There is something in a short circuit or the clip was not enough, or your soil is somewhat unfounded. After starting the PSU started the intake of energy was drinking too much for something more, so that the hard drive.

    I recommend investing in a copper wire and maybe a few pounds on your hard disk management.

    They recognize that the replacement of a copper contact with a piece of steel at low prices really ridiculous, is not it?

    Were you connected to a surge protector? I mean, I hope that you do not have sensitive electronics without a field related.
